I say, with no little arrogance, that we are perfect church of Christ material.
My family has been church of Christ since Barton Stone and the Campbells shook hands in the wilderness of Kentucky. My husband and I were both raised in traditional church of Christ homes. We both attended and successfully graduated from a preeminent college in the brotherhood. My husband is a successful business owner with a beautiful singing voice well trained from decades leading a capella worship services.
I am a stay at home mom who has put her career on hold to see two beautiful and well-mannered children successfully and happily into kindergarten. I have a degree in elementary art education just perfect for all of those arty VBS activities that no one else wants to do. We have a beautiful house, land ideal for bonfires and fall church parties. We have the means to contribute generously to the Lord’s church.
And we are getting the hell out of the church of Christ. . . .

Interesting! Until the last part, you were describing me. Lol Curious to learn more!Don’t get me wrong, we’ve considered leaving, too. For various reasons, we stay. I do understand, though and I love your blog! 🙂
Thanks for reading. I am not encouraging anyone to leave. There are many good cofC’s and many, many great people who attend them. We had our own complicated reasons for leaving. Now that we are out I can see how very, very different my beliefs are from those of most people in the cofC. I am glad I left and want other people to know that if they need to leave there is hope on the other side.
